Pregnant Individuals who have decided to wait until after delivery to be vaccinated may be inadvertently exposing themselves to an increased risk of severe illness or death. ACOG & SMFM, 8/25/2021

Lyndhurst Gynecologic Associates wholeheartedly supports the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine's (SMFM) recommendation that all pregnant individuals be vaccinated against COVID-19.

With the Delta variant, the number of COVID-19 cases is dramatically increasing in our area. We are heartbroken that the number of pregnant women battling COVID-19 is also on the rise. We know firsthand that COVID-19 infections put pregnant women at increased risk of severe complications, and we don't want any more of our patients and their families to suffer.

In a joint press release on Friday, July 30, 2021 ACOG and the SMFM stated that "Pregnant individuals who have decided to wait until after delivery to be vaccinated may be inadvertently exposing themselves to an increased risk of severe illness or death. Those who have recently delivered and were not vaccinated during pregnancy are also strongly encouraged to get vaccinated as soon as possible."

We encourage all of our patients to get vaccinated, especially our pregnant ones as they are at greater risk for serious illness and death. Vaccines are the single most effective tool against COVID-19.

Yours in health,
Lyndhurst OB/Gyn
